Cheers as fire-ravaged Rising Sun pub in Leverington reopens its doors
A popular village pub has re-opened its doors 11 months after it was ravaged by fire.
The re-opening of the Rising Sun at Leverington has been announced by its owners Elgoods Brewery.
Posting to its Facebook page the brewery said: “The Rising Sun in Leverington has reopened its doors.
“A huge thank you to everyone for your patience and support during this time.
“Landlady Maggie (Sharman) can’t wait to welcome you back to your local. Come and enjoy great drinks, warm company, and the cosy atmosphere we’ve all missed.”
The pub was badly damaged after the fire broke out in the early hours of December 21 last year.
Firefighters were called at around 1.38am and two people were taken to hospital after suffering smoke inhalation in the blaze, which took crews three hours to extinguish.
The accidental fire started on the first floor and led to low water pressure in the village after the fire damaged a water main in Dowgate Road.
The pub opened its doors yesterday lunchtime with new temporary opening hours, which are lunchtimes Thursday to Saturday 12pm to 2ish and evenings Wednesday to Saturday from 5pm. It will be open on Sundays from 2pm to 4pm.
However, the pub will not be serving food for the time being.
