The Wisbech Academy and Thomas Clarkson Academy hosted successful open evening for prospective parents and students

More than 500 prospective parents and students got an insight into secondary school life as they attended a joint open evening for two secondary schools.

The Wisbech Academy and Thomas Clarkson Academy hosted the joint evening, which provided an opportunity to learn about the educational opportunities on offer at both sites.

Dr Rachel Lawrence-Byron, associate principal of The Wisbech Academy, and Matthew Dobbing, associate principal of Thomas Clarkson Academy, played key roles in the evening by delivering informative presentations about the vision and offerings of their respective schools.

They highlighted the collaborative spirit between the two academies and expressed pride in the “hard work and cooperation that led to this milestone”.

Dr Lawrence-Byron said: “We are delighted to welcome our community to this open evening.

“It reflects our commitment to creating a nurturing environment where every student is known and valued. Our motto, ‘Thrive with Ambition’, sums up our vision for The Wisbech Academy.

“We aim to inspire our students to flourish in a community that values respect and kindness, benefits from great teaching every day, and embraces learning beyond the curriculum.”

Throughout the evening, students and parents were able to ask staff questions and explore departments.

Current Year 7 students from The Wisbech Academy were present to share their experiences from their initial weeks at the school, providing insights into school life.

The open evening marked an important step in introducing The Wisbech Academy to families.

Matthew Dobbing, associate principal of Thomas Clarkson Academy, said, “The open evening has been a fantastic opportunity for our community to come together and explore the exciting future of education at both The Wisbech Academy and Thomas Clarkson Academy.

“We are committed to providing an environment where every student can thrive, and I am excited to work alongside our families to ensure that we meet their aspirations for their children.”

Richard Scott, executive principal of The Wisbech Academy and Thomas Clarkson Academy, added: “I am proud of the collaborative spirit and dedication shown by our staff and students.

“This joint open evening highlights our commitment to providing exceptional educational opportunities and fostering a strong community.

“Together, we are dedicated to serving all the young people in Wisbech and shaping a bright future for our students and their families.”

Both academies are members of the Brooke Weston Trust. The Trust operates schools across Northamptonshire and Cambridgeshire, with all its schools rated as good or better by Ofsted as of 2023.

Parents who couldn’t attend the open evening can book a campus tour throughout the week.

The deadline for applying for secondary school places is October 31st, 2024. Interested parents are encouraged to submit their applications before this date.
