Kingsfield Primary School in Chatteris held its Harvest Festival celebration, involving the whole school community and gathering donations for a local food bank.

The primary school, which is part of Active Learning Trust, received around 25 filled shopping bags containing generous donations from parents and friends of the school. Items received included around 150 tins of canned goods, rice, pasta, biscuits, tea; coffee, toiletries, nappies, and lots more.

The school council delivered the donations to the Salvation Army Church in Chatteris, which hosts the Trussell Trust food bank.

They also presented an assembly to the whole school about harvest and its meaning, exploring what harvest means to people and how the school community can support those who may not have enough food at home.

Lisa Corby, executive headteacher, said: “It was br illiant to see that donations were so plentiful. I want to say a huge thank you to all of those who sent items into school and to Mrs Walker for organising this event.

“Harvest Festival is an opportunity to remind our pupils of the importance of empathy and kindness and a time to reflect on how we can all support our wider community.”
