College of West Anglia students go for gold in 2024 WorldSkills UK Competition
Three students from the College of West Anglia (CWA) are set to compete in the 2024 WorldSkills UK National Finals.
With over 6,500 entrants registered, CWA’s students are part of the top 6% in the country participating in the competition.
CWA’s finalists, Paige Scotney from the Wisbech campus, and Charlie Moore and Kaitlyn Fisher from the King’s Lynn campus, will compete across three categories: Foundation Hairdressing, Electrical Installation, and Health and Social Care.
In recognition of their achievement, CWA principal David Pomfret hosted a ‘Go for Gold’ reception at the College’s Novus Restaurant in King’s Lynn.
The event celebrated the finalists’ success in reaching the national stage of the competition and the Principal encouraged them to ‘go for gold’ as the winners receive Olympic-style medals.
Mr Pomfret said: “They have all done incredibly well to qualify for the finals and tonight is a celebration of their achievements and we are all incredibly proud of the students, whatever happens in the finals”.
Rachel Moore, Charlie’s mum, added, “We are so proud of Charlie, for the hard work and dedication he has put in, improving his skills in this area and in his career. Competing at WorldSkills will give him the confidence and foundation to aim high and achieve in everything he pursues.”
WorldSkills UK is the nation’s largest skills and careers event, bringing together apprentices, students, and young people from across the country to showcase their talents and compete for top honours in their chosen fields. The competition not only encourages young people to strive for excellence but also equips them with valuable, life-long skills.
The 2024 National Finals will take place between November 19 and 22 at various colleges, independent training providers, and universities across Greater Manchester.
The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony at the Bridgewater Hall, Manchester, on Friday, November 22.
