Van collided with police car assisting in recovery of broken-down vehicle on A47 at Terrington St John - leaving van driver with serious injuries
A van driver was taken to hospital with serious injuries after his vehicle collided with a police car on the A47 yesterday.
It happened after police were called to reports of a broken-down vehicle at Terrington St John.
A Norfolk Police spokesperson said that as officers were assisting with its recovery, a van collided with the police car at around 4.14pm.
Paramedics transported the van driver to Lynn’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital after suffering serious but not life-threatening or changing injuries.
“The collision was referred to the Professional Standards Department as is standard procedure,” the spokesperson added.
A spokesperson for the East of England Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 5.42pm on Thursday 21 November to a road traffic collision on the A47 near Terrington St John.
“One ambulance attended the scene and transported one patient to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for further assessment and treatment.”
After being called to the scene, police said the westbound carriageway of the A47 would likely be shut for “several hours”.
Motorists were advised to avoid the area and find an alternative route until it reopened at around 10.20pm.
