Chatteris Town back to winning ways
Chatteris Town got back to winning ways with a 4-1 home win over bottom side Wittering Premiair in the Peterborough League Premier Division on Saturday.
Dylan James with his fifth of the campaign, Jack McLoughlin, Martin Saunders and sub Lewis Hawkins were on target as newly-promoted The Lilies recorded their fourth league win of the season. Sam Bond was named man of the match.
Leverington Sports’ topsy turvy season hit a low though as they were thrashed 5-0 at home to Uppingham Town.
In Division One, Wisbech Town Reserves were beaten 1-0 at home by Eunice.
Division Two side Sutton Bridge United are through to the next round of the Spalding Inter-Services Cup, beating Boston League Division Two outfit Boston Athletic 3-2 at home. Liam Bills, Jack Thomas and an own goal did the damage.
Two goals from Marley Hamilton and one from Jordi Henson saw Tydd beat Stamford Lions in Division Two. Leverington Sports Reserves went down 5-1 at YDP, Gary Hurrell scoring.
Long Sutton Athletic Reserves were beaten 3-2 at leaders Wittering in Division Three and Leverington Sports A lost 2-0 at Sawtry Reserves.
Wisbech St Mary won just their second game of the season as bottom side Milton were beaten 1-0 in the Premier Division of the Cambs County League, sub Oliver Cottrill scoring.
There was a fifth consecutive win for Wimblington in Senior A, Rory Parker and sub Martin Porter netting in a 2-0 win at strugglers Thaxted Rangers, but March Town Reserves lost 2-1 at home to a very experienced Somersham Town in the First Round of the William Cockell Memorial Cup, Jordan Smith scoring for The Hares with the last kick of the game.
Manager Kieran Daplyn said: “We were competitive but really lacked quality in the final third. If you make mistakes like we did you are always going to get punished.”
Leaders of 1B Outwell Swifts crashed out of the Creake Charity Shield after losing 4-2 at fellow 1B side Stretham. Depleted Swifts had no subs and were forced to field players out of position, ending the game with nine men after two red cards. Ben Garner scored for the visitors alongside an own goal.
March Town A are also out after losing 4-1 at Needingworth United, but Chatteris Town Reserves are through after winning 4-3 at fellow 1B strugglers Benwick Athletic (Christchurch). Sub Kris Francombe netted a hat-trick for The Lilies, with Bradley Dean also on target.
Wisbech St Mary Reserves were beaten 2-0 at Houghton & Wyton in 2B but Manea United beat Soham Town Rangers Development 3-0 in the William Coad League Cup.
AEK United made it six wins from six in 4C, beating Manea United Reserves 5-1, Dan Hempson netting twice and Robert Hitchcock, Bean Pearce and sub Ajay Jolly on his debut also on target.
Second place Wisbech St Mary B drew 2-2 at home to Stretham Reserves, Adam Key scoring both, and Wimblington Reserves are through to the next round of the Reg Haigh and Arthur Peck Cup, beating March Academy 3-2 on penalties after a goalless draw.
Wisbech Town Acorns are also through to the Second Round, winning 4-2 on penalties at Outwell Swifts Reserves after a 3-3 draw. Chatteris Town A are out though after losing 2-1 at Great Paxton Reserves, sub Wayne Bostock scoring for the visitors.
